What is soft tissue management?
Soft tissue management (STM) is a program for treating gum disease. It resolves inflammation and aims to reduce depths of pockets between gums and teeth. Alton Dental in Burlington, ON, offers soft tissue management that helps decrease plaque and gain better periodontal health.
What is involved with the STM program?
Our STM program typically involves 2 to 4 visits but that depends on how advanced your periodontal disease is. The program includes periodontal debridement, scaling and root planing, and in-office irrigation with medicines mixed in.
What else does the program include?
We have extra benefits with this program includes the availability of a Rotadent motorized tooth brush with a lifetime guarantee and a prescription mouth rinse that can help prevent decay and remineralize teeth.
Will a dentist treat me or will it be a specialist?
Alton Dental starts with non-surgical treatments by a dentist but will refer you to a periodontist if surgery becomes necessary.
What can I do to make it a successful treatment?
Patients in the STM program need to be committed for the program to work. That includes keeping appointments, using the motorized toothbrush and flossing at home and coming in for maintenance three to four times a year.
What happens if I don’t do everything my periodontist instructs me to do?
Your gum disease could worsen if you neglect to follow instructions from your dentist or periodontist. Thai could lead to infections and tooth loss.
Can payments be arranged?
Payment for the STM program can be spread across appointments. We can check with your insurance to see if it covers this treatment. We bill insurance providers as a courtesy.
